PATAY GUTOM NA ARTIST an Anthology of Plays by Buch Dacanay



PATAY GUTOM NA ARTIST opens to the public 6 plays all written by Buch Dacanay, all brand new and original, and all a one-act play. Written in the span of 2017 to 2019, he decided to compile all of it in one book entitled, PATAY GUTOM NA ARTIST. A reference to him being a hungry, informal student in UP Diliman studying the art of theater by only working around it and inside it at times. Most of the inspiration to the stories in PATAY GUTOM are inspired by the stories gotten from his time in UP Diliman with his friends.


The book opens to the play “Sa Maling Mundo” which is a protest play written after he performed in Pat Valera and Matthew Chang’s musical stage adaptation of Lualhati Bautista’s Dekada ’70 (2018). He opened the book to that play to show readers what kind of student he was, and that he was a protesting student fighting for the rights that Filipinos (and the world) truly deserve.


“Ngilabot”, “Jenny Li” and “Mananatili Sa Dilim” the next plays on the list show his fascination in Ghost stories an d interest in mental health and how we can help and/or improve it, for he also suffers from mental health crises.


Finally “Si Nanay na Isang Manananggal” and “Napakahiganteng Dragon” show his liking of storytelling and the range of it he can explore, as the first one is a children’s adventure story and the next is a story about a Medieval city being terrorized by a giant speaking dragon. He proudly gets his storytelling skill from his late mother, Gamay Arkoncel-Dacanay who was a beautiful stage artist for PETA, and great mother goose of storytelling for children.
